This final zoom call was very interesting for me. I kept losing connection so I question how productive I was able to be during the meeting especially when in communication with the cast and creative! I definitely cannot wait to finally meet in person. Being in the room is always scary but it is the best feeling to finally be able to exchange REAL energy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the most important things that we went over today were some ideas about the \u201cbig idea\u201d of the play. For me personally, this is something that I do not like to finalize until we are in space and actively doing the thing. But I thought that it was really interesting to see what my castmates thought about this \u201cbig question!\u201d We all collectively agreed that each character is walking a thin line between a truthful existence and self preservation. For Margot, I think this is kind of a blatant aspect of her life. Being a queer woman at this time, whilst not illegal, is obviously taboo and she is hiding a part of herself in order to live the life that she wants and\/or is \u201cexpected\u201d to live. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She is being challenged every day by the fact that she loves Maxine and cannot be with her. However, she is equally challenged by the high status life that she lives and I\u2019m assuming she once dreamed of! I think it is crucial to remember that this life is something that she WANTS! She is not neglecting Maxine for no reason! Everything she does has purpose. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Something that I thought about today is how important it is for me to have empathy for her during this story. I have found myself judging her rather harshly, for cheating on her husband and making some choices that I would consider to be immature or rash. But even on a regular day this poor woman is struggling quite a lot. Under the heightened circumstances of this play, the state of her emotional and physical health is even moreso worsened. I need to have a little more empathy for what she is feeling in these difficult moments. I must gain some grace for the pure fact that she is beautifully imperfect. I agree with the group, I think that Margot exists on the line between truth and \u201crightness.\u201d She\u2019s messy and that is what is lovely about her. I don\u2019t have to run from that idea! During this rehearsal, I had the realization that I was casting judgment on this character and I recognised today that I had no right to be doing that, as it is my job to care for her.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
