We were running it so that our sound designer, Tony, could see it, but it also gave us an exciting opportunity to run it, play, and explore. I always try to milk the limited rehearsal time that I have with Jonah. I think he and I are really starting to work well together. We both care a lot about how this scene looks, feels, and comes across to the audience. It’s very important to both of us that we are successful here. So I love how productive our rehearsal time is together.

After Jonah left, the rest of the remaining cast did some runs of “the challenging scenes.” I am very hesitant to call them that because if I start saying that about them that makes it challenging. Let’s just say they are currently our least improved! I think the next step is for these sections to be word perfect! I think that is what we need in order to grow. We are just getting lost in the lines, and they are hard sections, but really we should be far past that point at this part of the rehearsal process! Playing with these scenes and experimenting with different moments in them has been very helpful though! Today we played a version of “pass the ball” before we ran this scene. When you had something to say either physically or vocally you had to ask/beg/plead to get the person with the ball to pass to you. I found so many moments playing this game where I realised, “oh wait… I have something IMPORTANT to say and I NEED to say it”! This game helped me realize when I want to be perceived by the other characters and when I would prefer to hide, which I found to be incredibly helpful when working through this scene!

We started today with a run of the fight scene.
