May 9 – First Zoom Rehearsal!

The first thing that we, as a cast, talked about today was how we plan to measure our success as a group and as individuals. I love setting goals at the beginning of a project so this step was very important to me. We talked about creating a productive artistic environment where we are all listening and trying our best at all times. I think creating an environment that is always productive and available is a pretty important first step.

Next we discussed the overall map of the play and how the basis of this piece centers around moral responsibility and self preservation. Each of the characters walks the line between those two things and the play explores the two edges of that sword. My question going forward is where does Margot fall between that balance? A major part of the questions that we discussed today focus on Margot’s moral responsibility and how that affects her personal safety. Is she free to do as she pleases in a world and time that is unaccepting of who she is? How much does self preservation and the need to please others affect her relationships and how close she can be to those around her?
